Okay, I'm now active on Google Plus: https://plus.google.com/u/0/100516437261483696990/posts.  I've found that WordPress is good for writing content and bad for social connection, while G+ is good socially but bad for significant content.  It's closer to Twitter than to LJ.  So neither of these venues is able to replace the other.  So I'm following the lead of splicer and writing real blog posts at http://supersonicman.wordpress.com/, and just posting links and summaries on G+.

After two years off, I have started a new blog again, on WordPiss. That system totally lacks many of the things that I liked about LJ -- for instance, it seems to be terrible at bringing people into circles of friends, and its layout themes tend to have a hard time with width adjustment.  But I needed an identity there for a couple of blogs I read, so what the hell, I put it there. So far it's mainly photos... but also, there's the return of Bad Webcomic Of The Day.

As yet, it has no readers.  I'm thinking about what to do on that front.  I could just link it from my regular website, but I'd rather actually have some social connection happening, instead of just a random ephemeral audience.

One final photo post. This is my brother Roy (the one who's now in the Obama administration), his son Simon, and a black oystercatcher, in Pacific Grove, California. I like that someone in a photo forum said "the composition is... crazy and works because of it".

It's time to shut this down.

Too bad I just had an automatic payment for another year of paid access, about three weeks ago.

I have lots of pics to post.  But nobody reads this.

Come to think of it, I don't really see a reason to post here anymore.

My brother and his family were in town last week, and we went to the Monterey Aquarium.

We went to Mitchell Canyon and the gf was super sharp at spotting the wildlife.  The masterstroke was locating a hummingbird nest.  This thing is only like 4 cm across.

Also, there were a bunch of these there.  Turns out this is a Western Bluebird, pausing on its migration between Canada and Mexico.

It was a REALLY wonderful nice day out.  (We also had some exceptional sex today.)

In Joaquin Miller park, there's a fountain and artificial creek and a couple of pools known as the Woodminster Cascade.

Update to this item: the fight against scientology isn't the only thing you're funding if you buy a ShamWow.

IE 8 may have been an easier target, but Firefox has also turned out to be vulnerable

My girlfriend is going to meet my brother's family and we're all going to Monterey.  Yay!  Week after next.

Today was her b-day, by the way.

No matter how many times they tell us IE is going to protect you against malicious websites, it still lets your whole computer be taken over just by clicking the wrong web link.  And so does Apple's Safari.

Since getting into a relationship my prepaid cellphone costs have gone up about fivefold.  And their nickel-and-diming on text messages is a surprisingly big part of the total lately.  Might be time to get a real cellphone, like a MetroPCS maybe.  Up to this point there's been no need because most long conversations have been on my Vonage line.  (And even that bumped into its 500 minute ceiling in February, but the excess was only a few bucks.)

As a stopgap I think I'll take advantage of the bulk buy rate on text messages.  At the current pace it'll probably save $10 or $15 a month.
